Grande Polaire: A World-Class Premium Wine Featuring the Distinct Qualities of Grapes from Five Growing Areas

Grande Polaire is Sapporo's flagship brand of wine. With the goal of creating a world-class, super-premium wine in Japan, it is produced with Sapporo's Laboratories of Enology and Viticulture taking a leading role in all processes, from the grape growing to the actual winemaking stage.
Japan's experience in winemaking is undeniably lacking when compared to that of the wine industries of Europe and many areas of New Wine World, in terms of both tradition and scale. Our Laboratories of Enology and Viticulture have overcome these differences, however, by utilizing cutting-edge analytical and testing techniques, as well as technologies related to yeast and brewing compiled through the production of Sapporo Beer. At our five grape-growing areas, in Hokkaido北海道, Yamanashi山梨, Nagano長野, Okayama岡山 and the U.S. state of Washington, we grow grapes that are suited to the land of each region, including Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, as well as Koshu, Kerner, Zweigeltrebe, Muscat of Alexandria and others. We are refining our winemaking know-how by producing wines that bring out the unique qualities of these grape varieties.

The process for making Grande Polaire reflects the distinctive methods used throughout Sapporo's wine production, with all processes from production to bottling conducted under sanitary, low-temperature conditions. Wines are kept in cooled wineries for fixed-temperature storage until shipment. In 2004, we introduced 1000-2000 liter winemaking tanks dedicated specifically to the production of Grande Polaire and subsequently began producing small batches of the wine that highlight the subtle variations in grapes grown in different plots on the same vineyard. Red varieties of Grande Polaire are created utilizing original contrivances of the Laboratories of Enology and Viticulture on the small tanks in order to facilitate polymerization of the polyphenols that give the wine a more aged and refined flavor. Such contrivances include a combination of open-top tanks and warming equipment that help to extract more polyphenols into the wine.

The multiple awards lavished upon Grande Polaire wines attest to the merits of our efforts. Grande Polaire won the Gold Medal in the Japan Wine Competition for four consecutive years from 2003 to 2006. The brand has also received awards at established and highly touted international competitions, including that in Ljubljana, Slovenia and the International Wine and Spirits Competition in the United Kingdom.

Intense nose displaying tropical fruit aromas and honeyed nuances with a faint whiff of petrol.  The palate is fairly sweet, filling the mouth with tangy candied fruit balanced by a nice crisp backbone of acidity.  Long finish.  Drink now – 2012.  Tasted August 2008.

6.赤玉--台灣最暢銷的日本甜紅酒

帶有紅色圓形標記的赤玉(Akadama),是在日本明治四十年,1907年4月時所發售的。
1922年,也就是日本大正11年時,赤玉酒搭配了一個當時很煽情的海報宣傳,這張海報還在德國舉辦的世界海報展覽拿到第一名的殊榮。

這百年間,赤玉酒可說是日本國民葡萄酒的代表之一,那份滋味我想無論是過了多少年都還是覺得滿棒的(對個人而言)。
